2017 Club Competitions and Trophies

Introduction from the Sailing Captain

2016 was a successful year at Prestwick with the club being represented at both national and international level. The club also produced a national championship winning pair in the Flying Dutchman class-congratulations Alastair and Mark.

The cadets continued to go from strength to strength with the clubs cadets turning up in large numbers at training events throughout Scotland. I hope we can harness this enthusiasm in 2017 and see more of them on the water for our Sunday racing. I intend to trial separate smaller courses and starts’ for Cadets on Sundays and will discuss this at our race training night on the 23rd March.

It is a big year for the club as we prepare to welcome back the RS300 fleet for their national championship in August. There will be a great social programme organised for the evenings of this event and all members are very welcome to come and enjoy the night time festivities.

The Solos and the Lasers are having an open event on June the 10th. I would encourage all the Solo and Laser sailors in the club to put this in their diary. It is an event for all not just the serious racers amongst us.

The racing activities for 2017 are being designed to meet the following objectives:

  1. Maximise participation
  2. Encourage fair racing for all levels of experience
  3. Maintain quality racing
  4. Recognise the variable conditions we encounter
  5. Reward good performance at all levels
  6. Encourage more cadet participation
