RYA Dinghy Instructor - Pre-assessment Course

This Course is run by the RYA and located at Largs Sailing Club. The RYA will run a Pre Assessment course for those eligible for their DI qualification. The candidates should be:
1. Minimum age
- 16 years old on the day of the assessment
2. RYA Stage 3 Youth or Level 2 Adult Dinghy Sailing
- Or equivalent experience accepted by the Training Centre
- You must be able to:
- Rig and de-rig correctly
- Sail confidently upwind, downwind, and on all points of sail
- Demonstrate good boat handling and control
3. RYA Safe & Fun Safeguarding
- Online course
- Must be in date (valid for 3 years)
4. RYA First Aid
- Minimum 1-day course
- Must include:
- CPR
- Hypothermia treatment
- Must be in date (valid for 3 years)
Powerboat Level 2
- Strongly recommended before PEA(Pre-entry assesment)
- Mandatory before the full Instructor course, but not always required just to do the PEA
- Many centres expect you to have it already worth checking locally
What you are assessed on (not qualifications, but important)
During the course you'll be expected to show:
- Confident boat handling in moderate conditions
- Efficient tacking, gybing, stopping, and starting
- Capsize recovery (single-handed and crewed boats)
- Good sailing awareness and safety
- Basic theory knowledge (rules of the road, weather, tides)
Largs Sailing Club are providing three Feva/Vision for the house, price included in booking fee.
