Summer School Week 3

14th - 18 July

Youth Summer Program

5 days dinghy sail training, this is a great way for children to learn to sail or improve their skills. The enthusiastic instructors will tailor the course and deliver it at an appropriate level to each group ensuring it provides a fun and enjoyable experience. Following the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, this course combines practical sailing with some theory. This is one of our most popular courses for all school children up to age 17.

This course runs from 9:30 to 4:30 each day. There will be a presentation of certificates on the Friday at 4:15 which all parents and guardians are invited to attend. Parent/guardian must complete an online medical form before their child can attend the course. A link to the online medical form will be included in a confirmation email which you will receive after you book.

If you would like any more information regarding our Summer Schools or Youth Sailing Program, please contact us at training@prestwicksailingclub.co.uk or 01292 871661

Each week we run various groups split by previous experience/level:

Beginners going for RYA Stage 1 - For complete beginners this course teaches basic boat handling techniques such as launching the dinghy from the beach and returning safely to shore, steering and basic boat controls. This course will be run by an instructor who will be in the boat with up to 3 students.

Achieved RYA Stage 1 (or equivalent) and going for RYA Stage 2 - This course assumes the young person has the basic knowledge of sailing and can steer a dinghy independently. Progressing from Stage 2 (most people will combine skills on this course of both level 1 & 2). The Young Person will begin to look at rigging (setting the boat up), different points (directions) of sail, tacking and some ropework/theory. This course will introduce sailors to single handed boats. Suitable for those having completed Level 1.

Achieved RYA Stage 2 (or equivalent) and going for RYA Stage 3 - This level progresses on the previous levels looking at perfecting those skills it will include smoother tacking, introducing gybing and sailing in all directions. This course brings more independence to the sailors as they carry out various manoeuvres in single handers.
